Workshop sessions

Our goal is to help participants develop their capacities in character-development and their skills in presenting them via stories that move their characters towards their ultimate destiny. The workshop will begin with a key exercise in style that is useful to every fledgling writer. We will then explore how plot is the vehicle of character development. Later, we will stop to consider the principles underlying the use of dialogue.

Workshop sessions will be dominated by writing exercises and group discussion. The discussions will focus on key techniques in story-telling. The exercises will help participants develop the habit of using these techniques and observe how other people’s writing benefits from their use. In the evenings, we will engage in informal creativity exercises aimed at excavating knowledge participants have embedded in their subconscious and may be suppressing under the stress of writing for hopeful publication - what is known as self editing.
